How to Give Your Heart to Christ 1. Upon what basis should Jesus save us?
Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but
according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and
renewing of the Holy Ghost
2. How are we saved?
Ephesians 2:8,9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of
yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should
boast.
“Who can say, I have made my heart clean?” “Not by might, nor by power,
but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.” “That your faith should not
stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.” Proverbs 20:9;
Zechariah 4:6; 1 Corinthians 2:5.
3. Yet what is an important element in faith?
James 2:14-26 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath
faith, and have not works? can faith save him? 15If a brother or sister
be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16And one of you say unto them,
Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them
not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
17Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. 18Yea, a
man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith
without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. 19Thou
believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also
believe, and tremble. 20But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith
without works is dead? 21Was not Abraham our father justified by works,
when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? 22Seest thou how faith
wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? 23And the
scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was
imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
24Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith
only. 25Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when
she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
26For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is
dead also.
“Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and
whether it be right.” Proverbs 20:11.
4. Jesus came to call whom to what?
Mark 2:17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole
have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to
call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
5. How does one repent?
Isaiah 55:7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his
thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon
him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
6. What should we be asking God to do for us?
Psalm 51:2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my
sin.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: and
see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way
everlasting.” Psalm 139:23, 24.
7. When will our search for God be successful?
Jeremiah 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search
for me with all your heart.
8. What if I regard iniquity in my heart?
Psalm 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:
9. Jesus wants people who want to be made what?
John 5:6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long
time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
10. Why will only a few receive eternal life?
Matthew 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which
leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
11. Who will not be worthy?
Matthew 10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy
of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of
me.
12. Will God accept a divided commitment?
Matthew 6:24 o man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the
one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise
the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
13. What is the cost of discipleship?
Luke 14:33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all
that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
14. What did Paul say he did daily?
1 Corinthians 15:31 I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ
Jesus our Lord, I die daily.
“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ
liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the
faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
Galatians 2:20.
15. If we want Jesus, what do we need to do?
Luke 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let
him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
16. When we come in that way, will He reject us?
John 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that
cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
17. When we confess our sins to Him, what two things will He do for us?
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us
our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
18. Must we do anything with our sins besides confessing them?
Proverbs 28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso
confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
19. When we give up our sins, how far does He remove them from us?
Psalm 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed
our transgressions from us.
20. What if we are guilty of the darkest of sins?
Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though
your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be
red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
21. He will do this for us upon what two conditions?
Isaiah 1:19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the
land
22. Can I obey God without His power?
John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and
I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do
nothing.
23. Although I do not find it within myself to perform good works, what
one thing is present?
Romans 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no
good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that
which is good I find not.
24. What then is the first step to victory?
2 Corinthians 8:12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted
according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.
25. Then what are we to do? And how does it work?
2 Corinthians 8:11 Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there
was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that
which ye have.
